Tutorial for: How To Root Galaxy Note i717 On Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread and 4.0.4 ICS on AT&T
[dropcap style="1" size="3"]The[/dropcap] Galaxy Note is arguably one of the best phones of the year. Although, if you really want to take control of it and customize each incremental detail of it, you can do so by rooting the galaxy note i717. This tutorial is only compatible with the North American Galaxy Note i717 and it will show you how to root the galaxy note:
Warning!
This is only for AT&T(or Bell, Telus, Rogers) Galaxy Note, do not apply on any other phone.
Requirements!
- You will need to have USB drivers from Samsung to do this procedure: Drivers Download
- Root Files to Download: Downloads Here
Instructions
- Install the USB Drivers
- Extract the Root Files on your computer
- Go to the Odin folder and right click the app and press run as administrator
- Put your Galaxy Note into download mode by holding the volume down, power, and home buttons until you see a Warning!! screen
- Press the volume up to continue
- Open up Odin on your computer and connect your Galaxy Note
- You should see a yellow box when it connects with Added!! in the message feed
- On Odin, select the PDA button and find the odin_ni717_cwm_recovery_b4.tar file and select it
- Press the start button on Odin to start flashing your device
- Once your phone has finished flashing it will restart
- Find the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip file and copy that over to your device (remember where it is)
- Boot into Recovery mode by holding the volume up, home, and power button until you come to the CWM screen
- From here, navigate to Install Zip > Install Zip from Internal SD card > Navigate to where you downloaded the rom file > Select
- Once it has finished installing, reboot and enjoy your rooted Galaxy Note!

Where is the pda.tar file? I’ve downloaded the file from the “Required files to Download. Downloads Here” link and don’t see it in any of the sub folders or compressed files.
the tar file odin_n1717_cwm_recovery_b4 (its the only tar file in the same directory than Odin3-v1.85 )
@mytheory that file is a. Zip can’t open it help should i just put the zip file in the pda

no. i just send it back to Sansumg and they just reset it for me.
@guoddx @oakvillenow @prequelserver @GuoJun I got the solution, you must find a complete firmware for your handset. I got the stock firmware for Rogers 4.0.4. Its about 500mb. Use the same program provided. Use Odin 1.85 that you already downloaded. Click on PDA and select the stock firmware. And the phone will be back to life again.
Stay from this thing unless you have Gingerbread.
hi does this root work for the official ICS 4.0.4?
I rooted Telus galaxy note i717D with Android 4.0.4. Now, it’s stuck at “SAMSUNG” screen. I have tried clear cache, reboot, and re-root it, its still stuck. When I tried Odin with Telus stock rom ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586223), it got stuck at Telus logo. Kies won’t recognize it and won’t do Tools>firmware upgrade and initialize. Please help.
@TomCa1 Why didn’t you read comments below? Its for gingerbread only, and the guy who posted this video refuses to recognize that.

@TomCa1 @oakvillenow odin and telus stock if again you got the proper 4.0.4 should fix it.
You have to wipe cache and wipe system restore from sd card than click on one back up by dates went you did it.
Did the same thing…. installed before reading comments. The pda.tar here DOES NOT work for Galaxy Note 1717 with Android 4.0.4. – Thanks oakvilleow – google search found “stock firmware for Rogers 4.0.4″ and all is back to where it was.
Anyone know where you can get a download that will work on Android 4.0.4?
